About Right2Roam Photography

I got the idea for Right2Roam while I was traveling through Scotland several years ago. In the Scottish Highlands the "Right to Roam" means that you are free to wander and explore where you would like, so long as you respect the land and its inhabitants. At that time I was just getting into photography and was looking for a direction to take my new interest. And so Right2Roam began.

Over the years, using several different models of cameras I've acquired an ecclectic collection of images. While I haven't specialized in any one subject or location, most of my photography can be grouped into travel and nature categories, with an emphasis on black and white landscapes. I use several different cameras with varying results. The first is an old Canon range finder that I received as a gift from my father. This camera although over 30 years old and lacking the versatility of an SLR with interchangeable lenses, still achieves some of the best results that I've ever had with traditional film photography. The second camera is a Fujica SLR that I bought second hand along with several lenses. It is with this camera that I continue to do most of my work with film, especially where long exposures are necessary. These cameras were too cumbersome to carry everywhere on a daily basis, so I picked up a Sony Cybershot so that I could have something readily available almost anywhere for photos of opportunity. I loved the possibilities of this new medium, and so became hooked on digital photography. Currently I shoot mostly in digital, simply for the freedom of being able to touch up my images before I print them. Using Photoshop I perform color and contrast corrections, and other tasks that I could perform in a darkroom if I only had the space. My newest toy is a Canon EOS 20D that is consistently providing excellent results. I've recently posted many of these new images to the New Photos section of this site. Others can be seen in the Projects section. I look forward to sharing more of these images with you on this website in the near future. Until then, I hope you enjoy the collection that I've put together here.
